HireVue Recognized as a “Green Business” by Institute for Green Business Certification

HireVue Commended for Merits of Eco-friendly Internal Business Practices and Product Offerings

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (March 23, 2011)HireVue, the number one provider of video interviewing solutions, today announced that the company has been accredited as a Green Business by the Institute for Green Business Certification (IGBC). This certification came as a result of HireVue’s deep commitment to reducing both their own and client carbon-footprints through their video interviewing technology offerings and internal business operations.

With standard business practices such as conducting all contracts and communication digitally, reducing vehicle emissions with a remote workforce, and using recycled office supplies and furniture, HireVue earned this accreditation after passing an extensive IGBC environmental audit. Green Business certification by IGBC requires that applying companies, like HireVue, are compliant with all environmental regulations applicable to their business and implement a variety of measures to save energy, water and other materials, as well as reducing waste. Companies are assessed though site visits by IGBC surveyors who determine whether or not the company meets these conditions. As part of its certification, the company must pledge to continue their efforts to prevent pollution and conserve resources.

HireVue’s video interviewing technology solutions offerings also enable their customers to engage in earth-friendly practices by providing recruiters with a greener alternative to their current systems. Because interviews can be conducted with the best candidates, anywhere in the world, over any type of internet connection, HireVue’s video interviewing platform allows organizations to screen candidates and gain high levels of insight while significantly reducing travel and ultimately minimizing negative environmental impact.

“We are extremely proud of our Certified Green Business distinction,” extolled Mark Newman, HireVue’s CEO. “HireVue has worked hard to emphasize the importance of following environmentally responsible business processes with both our customers and employees. Our video interviewing platform could be just one component of those eco-friendly practices. The goal of any organization should be to make the greatest business impact possible, while leaving the smallest carbon-footprint possible.”

Serving the Americas – and soon to be Asia, South Africa and Europe – IGBC is a third party accrediting organization believed to be the oldest of its kind. Their sustainability program is considered an industry audit standard and defines key areas and specific guidelines in a number of categories – including Recycling, Office Paper Usage, Water Conservation, Energy Conservation, Waste Reduction, Environmentally Friendly Purchasing, Pollution Prevention, Chemical Usage Reduction and Vehicle Emission Reduction all in compliance with elements of EPA and OSHA regulations.

March – New Features Released

The latest fixes and enhancements in the HireVue interview management platform include the following:

Quality of Service Enhancements – Several elements have been added to the candidate interview UI to make it easier to gauge how suitable a user’s network is to video interviews.  These include:

  • Network Quality Meter – A simple meter (green, yellow, red) has been added to the Live interview page to give candidates, managers and participants a visual indication of how suitable their network upload and download speeds are for live video interviews.  Network bandwidth and latency are major factors in determining the quality of a live interview and with this addition, all parties will be able to see whether they have sufficient network speeds to safely conduct an interview.
  • Upload Progress Bar – Candidates have occasionally disrupted the upload of their interview answers on very slow connections by refreshing the page prematurely.  This problem is now alleviated with an upload progress bar that appears with a message to wait until upload is finished.
  • Descriptions on Network Connection Test – The network connection test that is part of the interview setup now includes more descriptive text as well as directions on when it is or is not safe to proceed with an interview.

Usability Enhancements – Several usability enhancements have been added including:

  • Review and Retake Practice Questions – Candidates now have the ability to review a practice question, checking for lighting, sound and examining their on-screen image.  They can also retake practice questions up to three times with sample interview thought questions.
  • Quick Reconnect – If an interview session is terminated prematurely, the “Quick Reconnect” capability will allow users to return immediately to the position in the interview that they were working on without having to go through the initial setup process for checking microphone, camera or network test.
  • Volume Controls – Volume controls for both microphone and speakers have been added to the user interface for candidates and participants, simplifying the ability to make adjustments without going to the system or Flash controls.

Manager Enhancements – Changes made for account admins and managers include:

  • Names of live interview invitees are now included in the User Self-care reports so that manager can have a record of who participated in an interview.
  • FedEx shipping screens are now included for shipping webcams to new managers/users in both the Add User and Add Group screens.
  • International Shipping is now an option that can be enabled or disabled at the account level.

HireVue in onrec Magazine & the Wall Street Journal

Two publications recently featured HireVue in articles about online video interviewing.

The global online recruitment magazine “onrec,” featured HireVue in their analysis of virtual interviewing, “Virtual Interviewing – US Perspective.”

“New technology solutions allow employers to forego face-to-face interviews. But is virtual interviewing as good as being there? For clients of HireVue, a leader in interview solutions, the answer appears to be a resounding yes. As video and related technologies have become more pervasive, employers have become increasingly comfortable with adoption…”

The Wall Street Journal article, “How to Nail a Job Interview – By Video” emphasized the growth of video interviewing and tips for job seekers.

“These days, a job-seeker can land a job without ever setting foot inside the company’s office, thanks to video communication tools that connect employers with candidates over the Internet. Several people in the career and job-search industry say video interviewing using remote technology software is on the rise for a broad swatch of industries…”

The increasing industry adoption of video interviewing in general, and HireVue’s video interviewing and decision management solutions specifically, is becoming more and more obvious. Stay tuned as we announce incredibly talented recent hires at HireVue and the acquisition of some amazing new clients.

Web-based interviews: A useful hiring tool?

HireVue gets a mention in this article on Web-based interviews on HRMorning.com. I think they make a really interesting point:

“These days, more people are willing to relocate to find a good job. That increases HR’s talent pool, but it also makes the interview process more difficult and expensive.”

As the economy picks up I think we’re going to see even more of this. Employees who have settled for jobs they’re not crazy about are going to be more willing to pick up and move for the right job. Smart employers will be looking to take advantage of this to bring on quality talent and HireVue can be a huge enabler of this kind of strategy.
