Blackbaud offers solutions for fundraising and relationship management, ticketing, merchant and payment systems, finance and accounting, analytics, online marketing and more.

“Because we’re in the software business, our ability to serve our customers relies on our team’s intellectual knowledge and their understanding of our customers,” Peggy Frazier, VP of Global Talent Acquisition explained.“ We work in a niche market and by working to enable the success of our customer organizations, we are enabling the success of our own company and our people. When we’re successful, they are successful.”

As a tech company themselves, Frazier recognized that Blackbaud’s innovation needed to be reflected within their own recruitment

process. In addition to wanting to take a more modern approach to building teams at Blackbaud, Frazier saw an opportunity to improve productivity.

Blackbaud’s process not only impacted the recruiter’s time, it slowed down their ability to build the best teams. Scheduling and completing a phone screen took up to two weeks, leaving too many open vacancies for an extended period of time. “Before you’ve even spoken to any candidates, two weeks have gone by,” she stated. “Then, many times, our team would get on the phone and know quickly that the candidate isn’t a good fit. It wasn’t a good use of anyone’s time or resources. Ultimately, it wasn’t a positive experience for candidates or our recruiting team.”

Blackbaud also began using HireVue’s engineering solution to identify top tech talent and build their software engineering teams. With HireVue, engineering candidates are presented with a series of coding challenges and validated questions as part of their On Demand interview. The coding portion provides insight into technical capability while the video responses provide insight into personality and communication style.

“With HireVue’s coding challenges, you see the entire picture of a candidate,” said Frazier. “We want to see critical thinking and problem solving in a job relevant way. The job is to code software and solve customer problems through software and now we see how they diagnose problems. HireVue gets to the heart of that and is so much more than just a coding test.”

“We’ve recently done an OpenVue Vacancies & Full Candidate Pipeline campaign for our sales team and it was hugely successful.

Blackbaud is also leveraging OpenVue, HireVue’s social interviewing tool that allows organizations to source and identify talent across their social channels. Leveraging social and mobile, Blackbaud was able to easily reach passive candidates. Blackbaud created a unique link and landing page for the campaign and posted it on their career site as well as through their social media outlets.

“Reducing our time to fill was a huge objective of ours when we implemented HireVue,” stated Frazier, “In less than a year, across all of our teams, we’ve gone from an average time to fill of 70 days down to 59 - a 15% reduction! Anytime we can get quality talent in the seat faster, it’s a win for us. I only see this number continuing to drop from here.”
